You might want to see if the Oneworld Awards make sense for your flights within Europe. You can get a lot of flights included in an OW35Y. Distances are measured between stopovers, regardless of your routing, so FCO-LHR-WAS would charge 825 miles to your ticket, not 1815. Just need to fly on two OW carriers. Routing limitations: "Members may fly unlimited segments and may stop in each city once, but may not connect in the same city more than twice. Passengers may not stopover or connect in the city where travel originated."
