I do not like what Tony George has done to Indycar (I will not pay to see an IRL race...My tickets Sunday were compliments of Marlboro)...but it kills me to say the IRL puts on one hell of a show. Much better than any Cup race we attended .

Yeah there is nothing like paying money to see a race only 6 cars race in, thats my idea of funnnnn *smirk*....NOT!
90% of the open wheel racers are also surrounded by sheet metal too, their wheels arent covered and their head slightly pokes out, but they are still just as protected.
As for the speed and 2/3 wide racing. Nascar runs over 200 on some tracks and we go 4 wide. The tracks where we dont go 200+ was a change made to protect the FANS. The restrictor plate was to keep cars out of the stands in an accident after a horrible wreck sent parts into the fans.
