Yo,
I'm planning a Great Escapade RTW trip in Spring next year. However, a friend mentioned it might be worth looking into getting a Frequent Flyer card for this trip.
Having never using a FF card before, I was wondering whether the benefits would be worth it? (As from what I understand, I can only reap the benefits _AFTER_ I've made the flights which is a bit of a minus).
Planned route is...
LON-LAX-NAN-AKL-CHC-SYD-HKG-SIN-LON, probably with a short hop using SilkAir from Singapore to perhaps Siem Reap, or somewhere around Singapore (to max out my Great Escapade allowance, which is 29,000 miles, I believe

)
For 29,000 miles, split roughly 1/3 between SQ, NZ and VS, is a FF card worth it? Can I use any of the FF card benefits DURING the trip?
