With respect to your comments about overbooking on overseas flights . . .

There is quite a bit of overbooking for these as well as domestic flights. DL commonly overbooks all the European flights. The one that really stands out is the flight to Rome from ATL which is routinely overbooked in excess of 40 passengers in coach.
