Actually, that does make sense. When putting together an itinerary, if you want to look at the schedule one flight at a time rather than all at once from origin to destination/stopover points, you have to be able to see the code-shared flights as a "non-stop". Same thing at the airport monitors. LGA-DTW flight CO????, which cannot be booked like that unless you change planes in DTW.
