On Saturday, the Marine Corps held the third annual "Marine Corps in Central Park" day in Rumsey Playfield. It was a PR/recuiting/Hug-A-Marine sort of event. There were a couple of APCs, some weapons displays, a rock band playing etc.
I was passing by and poked my head in both coming and going about an hour apart in the middle of the afternoon and I have to say that the enthusiasitc majority you speak of was pretty hard to spot.
Standing up at a ball game is nice, but I doubt that the number of NYers willing to sign up and fight this war or send their kids there is breaking any recruiting records.
I don't know what part of NY you're in, but I'd hardly call NYC a pro-military place.
(Come to think of it though, I agree with whoever said above that this thread hs nothing to do with travel and doesn't belong here. My bad. I bumped it instead of letting it fall. Sorry and add me to those who think it should be moved or closed.)
