I have back up ... I have two cards that can be used in an ATM, one an ATM and one a debit/ATM card. I use the latter for the most part in international destinations since its my credit union account with the best exchange rates/fee combination. I also carry a credit card with me (at least one) when I go on international trips. Most of the cards get left back at the hotel but they are with me if I need them and each card can be used to access money in a pinch.

Oh yeh, and I carry a couple hundred in USD for use when I get back to the States and for a small currency exchange, if needed.
