I'm agnostic on Montreal airports, YUL doesn't have great connections to downtown. At first I thought the new one was a revived Mirabel, that would be a non-starter!
Mirabel was a disaster from the get-go, and interestingly one of the major mitigating factors for Toronto unseating Montreal as Canada’s Financial capitol. Only overseas flights used Mirabel so anyone who’s destination was not Montreal would have to take a bus 50km to Dorval to connect.
This is very much a domestic/reginal airport and much more akin to YTZ than YMX. Though not directly connected to Downtown (yet still easier to get to from Downtown that YUL) it cannot be compared to YMX. DAL & MDW are better examples.
I expect that Transborder flights will be added as happened in YTZ many moons ago.
