If you had waited to the post 24 hour point, you would have gotten a new FFC for the total and it would have issued in a few hours.

It took about 4.5 days to for the part-FFC part-credit card refund to come. Then I found out that you could not book a farelock reservation with an FFC. Thankfully one call to United and the agent applied the FFC to ticket the farelock reservation without question. United should really get rid of all this song and dance and simplify their currency. Travelbank, FFC, ETC - three currencies with different rules for each is terrible.
