I don't ever think I've seen the rep check why the person is "denied" entry on the computer screen or not... Maybe a seperate error comes up if they are not within the 4hour time?
And I can confirm that is the case. Different errors - as Gold I also got the dreaded red light when I was just a tad earlier than T-4 hr at the WLG domestic lounge. They looked at the screen and joked "sir you had to come back in 13 minutes" before waving me in.
