Got a question on waitlist with Air New Zealand, found another thread but not really related and from 2017, so starting a new one.

First world issue, I have a trip to Singapore returning around mid December. I wanted to travel with NZ operated service with better earn rates, but it is full. What I have is a confirmed seat with SQ with a flight departing around 5 hours later.
Agent issued the ticket and I selected seat and book a cook service with SQ.
My question:
1. If I do not hear from the agent before travel date, am I expected to go to the airport with the wait listed flight?
2. What happens if I have a confirmed seat just before bag drop close, and I will be rushing and no chance to use the lounge? I assume I can only wait at the counter as a standby and I cannot check in my bag with SQ and just wait in the lounge…
3, will it affect my confirmed flight if it was confirmed in the earlier flight but I was not there?
4. Can I ask my agent to cancel the waitlist say a day before to save me all the trouble (if still not confirmed?)
It is an interesting experience for me and I can and I have request an APD upgrade with my waitlisted flight too, but it does not even show up on my app…..
