I hope you get it! I'm no expert but we just did IAD-LHR in Premium Plus on an R fare. I was waiting for a MUA to Polaris to clear, 20,000 miles pp + $450 pp. Neither of us had any status. We booked in January for an October trip. At the time of our flight we were 2 & 3 on the upgrade waitlist, with three seats left, but we didn't get it. Probably someone with more status than us got it, or they bought a ticket day of.

(I have to say, United treated us VERY well when our return flight LIS-IAD-RDU in Polaris, on a different PNR, was delayed two days, and changed to LIS-EWR-RDU. So that made up for not getting the LHR upgrade. Having lunch in the EWR Polaris restaurant was not bad at all.
