Almost exactly 6 years later, I have just witnessed something similar in the 2E-L lounge. A gent (unknown nationality) filled up what looked a 1l water bottle with champagne, tipping bottle after bottle and putting the empties back in the ice afterwards. After this, he grabbed a handful of crisp packets and strolled back to his seat. He was still there when we left 45 minutes later, so I can imagine that the wine would be rather flat and warm by the time he boarded his flight. Unless he drank it all before he left...
