I realize the waitlist feature is not the problem, but it shows that serious undetectable mistakes can occur as a result of this process (if not done properly).
Were you notified when the waitlist cleared and "
the business seat was assigned"? That will be the time to ask for a re-issue. I agree AA can remind you of this more clearly, but for your future reference, that is when you need to ask AA to re-issue to confirm with AA that the ticket has been re-issued (so you receive a new ticket number).
