Flight length and distance correlate quite strongly, and typically distance is used as a proxy for duration for consistency. But yes there is a length/distance cut-off for this. The shortest flights (AMS-LCY/BRU/DUS at least, probably a few more) require simplified service or there just isn't enough time to serve everyone before the captain tells the crew to ready for landing.
Is it a similar correlation for receiving a sandwich versus the cheese crackers? Is it always egg salad and cheese? or are there meat sandwiches sometimes?
