Power bank rules & regulations inflight

Thought it might be useful to have a consolidated thread / wiki on this trend of new rules and regulations this year around power banks.

These new rules are likely stemming from the Air Busan fire:

With the severity of that fire, there’s been a trend for varying rules to be introduced in the airline industry this year (so fa, it seems primarily in Asia), though nothing standardised by the ICAO / IATA level yet. These get discussed in different threads, e.g.:
TAP: no power banks on Tap!?!
Cathay Pacific: Power Banks are banned starting April 7, 2025
EVA: Effective 3/1/25, EVA bans the use of power banks in flight.
Singapore Airlines: In-flight use & charging of powerbanks banned from 01 Apr
Malaysia Airlines: MH: New power bank rules from 1 Apr 2025
Southwest: Southwest new rules on use of power banks on board

Now China's Civil Aviation Administration has jumped on this trend and is implementing new regulations across the industry nationwide, will now require a (local) certification of any power bank before they are allowed on flights. Also, any recalled power banks are explicitly banned.

According to the Reuters article, China since 2014 has banned charging devices with power banks inflight.

Can’t tell if this is intra-China(/HK) only, or for any flight originating or arriving in China:

A cohesive set of rules defined at the international level would be best, but until then, seems we’ll just have to muddle through with the piecemeal approach…
