On 15 Jun I flew Ba297 LHR-ORD to connect to AA3766 ORD-CID (Sold as BA6940). The OR-CID flight was first delayed due to technical issues and after 2 hours the crew run out of crew duty time. So the flight was cancelled and then replanned for a 16 June departure at 06:30. We were offered Uber vouchers and hotel, which I took, plus a $12 meal voucher.
Is there any mechanism to claim for compensation for the delay as the EU261 rules wont apply as it was a US flight?
The knock on was a ruined Monday morning meeting plans and a slightly grumpy person for the day due to lack of sleep.
There is case law to say that since you purchased it as a UK/EU flight number with the itinerary starting in the UK/EU, EU/UK261 applies - however that was under EU261, whereas this will be under UK261. The legal text is the same, but the case law was court cases in EU courts, so it may be a fight.
