Gao Viet, sf:
shared spring roll
passion fruit fruit black tea
chubby pho

they wouldn’t serve the raw beef on a separate plate
no pho is worth $23
i prefer their cheaper Ben tre sibling spot
i am impressed with what they did to the former kfc bells spot
the owner makes beautiful videos both for the food and his personal background of being displaced in the 70s. I’m happy for his success.
I prefer ppq which is a block away. But gao viet is suited for my wife. She prefers prettier interiors and plating. I go to ppq by myself for luncheon when I can. That’s my kind of place - Chinese-owned where they’ll put the raw beef on a separate plate and include bonk choy in the pho which of course is very not what pho is.

Omg my wife and I drove past it last night and admired that it was busy. I love it even if they don’t serve Cazu Marzu cheese. I tend to get the squid pasta although I’ve not been since the ownership change.
