Sure. By leaving LAX on 24 December, you arrive in Australia on 26 December and therefore completely miss Christmas Day, so if the aim is to be in Australia for Christmas lunch, then people will leave at least the day before.
The A380 could leave SYD on 24 December, get to SIN/HKG, turn and get pax home on Christmas morning and probably yield better.
Thanks for the insight. Makes sense. We are flying on the 24th as it allows us to celebrate Christmas with family in Chicago, albeit 24 hours early, and still have two days in Sydney prior to boarding a Viking Cruise.
