On 99.999% of flights where there are no issues, you are right. No damages or impact.

But if you are on that .0001% of flights where an exit is needed quickly, do you want that person to open the exit hatch and go quickly, or waste time taking care of their infant? (Not to mention, pretty sure this is a law, not just an AA policy)
