I'm usually a Star Alliance guy, but for various reasons I've found myself flying a lot of paid J on oneworld carriers over the last 8 months. I haven't credited those flights anywhere yet, and I'm trying to figure out which program would be best. Here are the miles and fare buckets:
October 2024
- 9452 miles in QR P class operated by QR
- 1575 miles in QR P class operated by CX
- 3673 miles in QR P class operated by MH
December 2024
- 1132 miles in AA R class operated by AA
January 2025
- 7112 miles in AY I class operated by BA
- 5974 miles in JL I class operated by JL
- 6025 miles in AY I class operated by AY
April 2025
- 732 miles in JL I class operated by AA
- 15600 miles in JL I class operated by JL
- 1539 miles in CX P class operated by CX
May 2025
- 1199 miles in QF I class operated by AA
- 17213 miles in QF I class operated by QF
- 592 miles on JQ (class unclear) operated by JQ
- 2085 miles in QF T class operated by WS
I'm trying to decide if I should credit to AA or QF. I think AA would give me slightly more points, but with QF I would qualify for Platinum status (oneworld Emerald). I do have a few questions that I need expert help with.
- The AA earning page suggests that JL I earns 250% of miles flown (100% base + $150 cabin bonus). Is that correct?
- If I had credited my October - January flights to AA, I would have earned Gold status. If I credit these flights now, will I get retroactive Gold status? It really affects how many miles I earn for the April and May flights if I'm Gold or not starting after March 1.
- It looks like I need 4 QF/JQ segments to qualify for QF status, and I didn't get these until May. If I submit my May flights first and hit QF Bronze, would I get the bonus miles for flights flown before May but submitted later? It would be annoying to fly 100,000 oneworld miles but not qualify for any bonus because I didn't fly QF segments until the end.
- How do people rate the relative value of AA vs. QF points? Am I better earning more AA miles even if I don't get the Emerald status?
Thanks!
