I've had mostly good luck with Sun Country over the years. They are basic but fares are consistently lowest in the MSP market (and they rarely increase substantially for last minute travel.)
But I just had one of the WORST ever experiences at LAX. I arrived into the international terminal and had a self-booked connection with a 2-hour layover. Cleared customs very quickly. For some reason there was no gate listed on my SY boarding pass but it did list Terminal 1 as the departing. No gate listed in their app or on their flight status page. All simply said T1. (And LAX doesn't tend to list every flight on the flight information screens but rather does it terminal by terminal.) In Terminal 3, for instance, it only has Delta owned screens.
About 60m before departure I walked across the entire airport and arrived at Terminal 1. Check the screen again and now it was assigned as Gate 206 -- which required a bus shuttle. (Still nothing on the Sun Country app or online flight status screen.) There was some kind of disruption with the shuttle and 30m later I was still waiting in line for the bus and a sun country gate agent called me and informed me they would be closing the gate and I had missed my flight.
Gate 206 is not in Terminal 1, it is in Terminal B. It's a solid 20m walk -- but I was already in that terminal when I arrived!! I understand that they have their ticketing and check-in at Terminal 1 but they really need to get their stuff together with how they are listing terminals/gates because this could have been easily avoided. Gate agent on the phone told me she couldn't help and I needed to return to the ticketing desk. I get to that desk and there is no employees -- just a sign telling me I need to call for assistance. !!!!
