While ago , I was able to grab QF F ( one of the F experiences I am missing ) arriving from LAX 7:30am ( if departs on time , arrives 30-45min early ) and have been looking for immediate decent return to US East Coast . I haven’t yet found other option than AA F SYD -LAX - wide body to East Coast . The flight leaves at 9:10am though (fully cancellable ticket ) , I have been to SYD before (5 full days ) and not looking to spend an extra day . No luggage , of course .
A risk. You are hoping-guessing the LAX-SYD flight arrives on time. Check the on time performance

No hope of 60 minutes transfer if you go landside. For flights to USA are extra checks. Flight will close X minutes before scheduled departure. So would not have 60-80 minutes
Technically you may be able to stay airside and not process AU immigration, customs & bio security.
However would expect QF will want to see proof you can be admitted to Aust-ETA Visa etc
What is plan B, plan C if you no show the SYD-LAX flight?
