Upgrades from L are OK but you need to give notice for changes to L flights. I think it's now 2 days notice to changes up to 1 year.

However, the cost of the upgrade is going to hurt... Best off to use points for upgrades because MEL-HK is around 25,000 points. The dollar cost will be closer to AU$2000.
