Sorry for the late reply. We found that groceries in town (i.e. in Windhoek, Swakopmund, or Walvis Bay) were easy to find and reasonably affordable. We weren't looking for high-end items, but rather things to cook in camp.

Security wasn't an issue outside of Windhoek. In town, we were in by nightfall, but during the day we felt totally safe.
