Admittance to J lounge is a significant advantage of CX SL indeed. If this privilege were to be removed, there would be little reason to prefer CX when other carriers offer more competitive rates.
Of course, we are just a tiny minor fraction of CX's business. Perhaps we really are not loyal enough, but these changes would be quite disappointing.

Like you I'm an SL, and I have a decent chance of making it to GO before my renewal. If they remove lounge access for SL's and make it harder to attain GO (hoping none of this happens), I don't see myself flying on CX metal for the forseeable future as there is no reason to pay the pricey fares and get less benefits in return. I would argue that CX SL is already the hardest Oneworld Ruby status to earn, and reducing any benefit for that matter would be disappointing.
