This is what I've done for CX bookings using AS miles. I can just enter my AA FFN when pulling up my reservation for the first time on the CX website.

I’d be curious to hear if people had better experiences, or if AS.com really
recognized that my AS award had a non-AA’s loyalty number and thus denied me premium class seating selection. (of all the things they could spend IT resources on, I really hope they didn’t choose this one)
