Your qualification year ends in September, thus, your "status year" ends in December. If you qualify for higher status anytime during your qualification year it should be valid for the remainder of your current status year plus all of the following. For example, if you qualify for Gold sometime during October 2004 to September 2005, you will get Gold status until December 2006 (i.e., the remainder of the current status year which lasts until Dec 2005 + the following). So, depending on how early in the qualification year you qualify, status may be good for up to two years. Seems pretty consistent with what you wrote.
