This is a refresh of the popular BA experience at Manchester Airport topic. The old topic has now been archived and will be found here:
BA experience at Manchester Airport.
We hope this new thread will serve as a resource topic, where we share useful, focused information on the BA experience at the airport. Regular users are well aware that Manchester Airport has its challenges, especially at Terminal 3. In this new topic we are looking for constructive and informative contributions that share very recent experiences at the airport. We particularly welcome contributions that offer fellow travellers insights or tips. Non-contributive content, such as throwaway comments about how bad the airport or its management is, does not add much to the discussion.
All BA flights currently depart from and arrive at
Terminal 3.
Move to Terminal 2
Chatter at Manchester Airport indicates British Airways will move to Terminal 2 in the coming months, once the domestic arrivals channel is ready. The move was expected happen in the Spring of 2025, but sources now suggest it may be September or even October 2025 before BA finally moves. We will keep this topic updated with any new information or official announcements regarding the move to Terminal 2. Once the move to T2 is complete, this topic will be archived and a new thread specific to T2 will be opened.
Where to Pre-Book Parking Before T2 Move?
Despite the much-anticipated move to Terminal 2, there's still no confirmed date, and the airport Car Parking website still defaults to T3 for BA flights. Realistically, the move likely won’t happen before late 2025, so T3 remains the safest bet.
Airport parking for BA flights now defaults to T2 from 7th October 2025.
That said, if BA moves terminal after you've booked, Manchester Airport allows you to update your parking reservation—just contact them with your flight and booking details. So for now, book T3, and keep an eye on any updates as your departure approaches.
Departure:
The
Check-in Desks are located in Zone B on Level 2 and open 2 hours before each departure, sometimes a little earlier. Check-in closes 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. For
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Options please see post #4 below.
Fast Track security is available according to usual British Airways rules. It generally works well, and while security staff may get some criticism on here, I've found that treating them with respect leads to reciprocation. Keep in mind, the staff don't make
the rules. For BA domestic flights biometrics (in the form of a photograph) are taken before you enter the security channel.
Fast Track entry is available for purchase for those travelling in Euro Traveller (Economy Class) and without BA status. You can buy access at vending machines located just before the entrance to security, or online in advance. The cost is
£5.50 (£7.00 from February 2025) £8 (from May 2025) minimum if purchased in advance, more from the machine (cash or card). Pre-booking appears to adopt dynamic pricing starting at £8 for T3.
Typically, you will only be allowed airside within three hours of your scheduled departure time.
Lounge:
The Escape Lounge is now permanently closed, a new temporary facility "
The Hangar Lounge" is provided for use by British Airways passengers. Access to the lounge follows standard BA eligibility rules: class of travel or status.
The lounge opens daily at 0400 and closes at 2000 and is located next to Gate 37. Turn left after security, take the stairs (or lift) down one floor and the "lounge" is straight ahead. The route is well signposted, follow the signs for "
Premium Lounges".
Toilets are located within the lounge space.
The lounge provides self-serve hot and cold drinks, alcohol, cold and ambient snacks, pastries and sandwiches. The menu will be found by clicking
here.
For alternative eating and drinking options, and information on pay for entry lounge access see post #3 below.
Gates:
Flights typically depart from Gate 142 or 143.
Boarding is organised by groups, with strict enforcement of Group 0. It is not unusual for passengers attempting to board before their group is called to be sent back.
Biometrics are checked upon entering the domestic gate area. Ensure you use the same boarding pass (BP) you used at security. If you used a paper BP to enter security, you must use that same paper BP to enter the gate area. The same rule applies if you used the BA App—use the same BP at the gate entrance. Unlike some airports, at MAN BPs are not interchangeable.
Arrivals:
Flights tend to arrive at Gates 142 or 143, with an airbridge to the terminal. There is a flight of steps down to ground level once in the terminal.
Baggage collection is usually belt 13.
There is a
Hangar cafe in arrivals (land side) which opens daily from 07:00 until 20:00. A
WHSmiths convenience store (located to the right as you exit the baggage hall) for drinks, snacks, sandwiches or any arrival essentials you may need to take home.
Connecting at Heathrow:
Flights arriving from Manchester will land at Heathrow Terminal 5A (T5A), Gates A1-A8. When connecting to another flight within Terminal 5, you do not need to pass through security again. The only requirement is a boarding pass check (and a biometric photo if connecting on to a domestic or
Common Travel Area flight) at the T5A connections checkpoint opposite Gate A5.
If you arrive from a remote (bus) stand, once you enter Terminal 5A, head upstairs via the lifts or escalators to the area near Gate A1. Walk down the corridor to the boarding pass checkpoint.
Do NOT pass through the one-way glass doors on the ground floor after entering the building.
For connections to flights departing from Terminals 2, 3, or 4, follow the purple signs. Proceed along the corridor toward Gates A7/A8, where a Heathrow staff member will check your onward boarding pass and direct you towards Flight Connections and the Terminal Transfer Bus. You will need to pass through security upon arrival at your departure terminal.
