I called Indigo and they gave me a mixed message - you cannot leave the airport but maybe you can talk to the airline officials. Has anyone tried this? I'll be with a 4 year old kid, so definitely don't want to spend 20 hrs in Turkey airport! There is no info on the Indigo or Turkish Airways website
Haven't flown the combination of Indigo & Turkish on this route but I have flown DEL-IST-JFK & AUH-IST-JFK on TK a number of times & have even left the airport at IST on a couple of occasions.

No airline will tell you that you have the ability to leave the airport during a layover but I don't think anyone is going to stop you from doing so.
