Upgrade via email nor1 (NOV 2024)

Similair to nor1 upgrades offered pre-arrival via email at Hilton.

This was the offer for a booking of award room KING for 1 night
1 King Bed Classic Garden View
Spoiler

This was the offer for a booking of revenue room TWIN for 3 nights
2 Single Beds Classic Garden View
prepaid
Spoiler

Above is my personal room.
This has been upgraded to "2 Single Premium Club Lounge Access Garden View Balcony".
Before everyone laments this upgrade as i could score better as RA with upgrade to duplex mezzanine suite,
(i love your support btw)
my stay profile has specific no stairs for me if travelling with Mother. I do not do well anymore with lacquered stairs.
Also i refuse to let Mother sleep on the colapsable sofa downstairs, although she is slightly getting less nimlble for stairs. She seems to remember from previous stays my boys camping downstairs and turning the whole lower level in a tent camp, jumping like kangeroos on the sofa and it broke in 2 Now i don't want her to jump on the sofabed and it splits in 2
So dillemma.....
My ihg-1rewards account is almost nil in points after yersteryear's family reunion.
(how cool is it to check in and see on the welcome note: "your points balance is 9 , we thank you for being a loyal customer")
So no seperate rooms this stay at IC Bali Jimbaran and sticking to twin beds seems the best solution.
Fortunately i will be treated the upcoming reunion years with my sister's Hilton and my twin brother's Hyatt points stash. Phew!

Anyway, this trip will bring us also to:

- Accor's handwritten collection "Phoenix hotel"
The elephant in the room is... "handwritten collection" .... come again.....excuse me ?
Seems a way to demote those Mgallery hotels from luxury to midscale, IMHO

https://insideflyer.nl/review-the-ph...en-collection/
Yes i do love myself some retro vintage tempo doloe colonial style hotel!
EDIT: updated NOV 2024 review completed
The Phoenix hotel Yogyakarta

- Hyatt Regency Yogjakarta
Nostalgia, although an older hotel, i always return here since it first opened.
The WOH cat1 fan favorite that flies under the radar AND is now in full refurbishment phase
https://www.hyatt.com/hyatt-regency/...ncy-yogyakarta

Also nicolas75 would strangle me with delight if i'm going to go there pure as inspiration material for loyalty lobby's compensation clinic. I booked a club room on points, i know, i know, ....the things i do for flyertalk... at least i can spend my complete WoH points balance for a free stay here than never ever reaching enough balance for the Park Hyatt Vendôme. (I leave this up to my twin brother: Sibling rivalry)

- HIX Semarang
https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpres...sl/hoteldetail
As travelling with a whole entourage of a different extended extended family branch, mysticas, driver, security officer and what else in domestic support services.
This hotel was able to squeeze us in on a whole floor.
Just realised, beginning to act and think like a harem takeover !
A negotiated group rate that was attractive.

- Novotel Surakarta Solo City
Nostalgia sake from the time when Solo City still had an international airport served by SilkAir to Singapore.
Once a flight was cancelled due to obscene weather and we were all put up here complimentary for an extra night's stay. https://all.accor.com/hotel/0545/index.en.shtml
Unlike the AirAsia flight to Kuala Lumpur where the passengers were asked to just go away and try again the day after......
I know, i know, i know, there are better newer hotel options out there.
Hyatt's Alila looks impressive and i could have gone for Accor MGallery Royal Surakarta Heritage

https://insideflyer.nl/review-the-ro...en-collection/
clubeurope has an excellent very detailed report about both hotels:
A Quick Jaunt to Java

- Marriott Yogjakarta
https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotel...otel/overview/
Was my last hotel to stay in prepandemic so bit of a soft spot.
Also curious to see how things have evolved from an international focus, now catering to domestic travellers.

Yogyakarta Marriott, Indonesia [Master Thread]

- Kempinski Hotel Indonesia Jakarta
https://www.kempinski.com/en/hotel-indonesia
Booked for nostalgia & historic reasons, when i was a little lad we used to stay at this government owned hotel.
My only other Kempinski stay was at Munich Kempinski 4 JahresZeiten, a comedy of errors
My only other Kempinski experience was at Bali Apurva Kempinski, fancy schmanzy ocean palace!

So next week there are some updates from IC Bali Jimbaran coming this way.....
