The real dump at LAX would be T4 and T5, where AA's hub operation is and a few other airlines operate from there as well. T5 airside has not been touched since the 1980s.
LAX is one of my home airports, and I can say that it is one of the world's worst airports from an access and moving within the airport perspective! But I don't agree that its terminals are crap! Even AA's T4 & T5 are not worse than any other major airports, and UA's T7 and T8 are perfectly fine even though there is not much to write home about them. T6 will be interesting to watch but if the LAWA people can take a trip to Austin to get inspiration, then things could get interesting
