Booking child in own PNR and linking to accompanying adult?

In a thread on the AA forum I read this helpful suggestion.

But I can’t see how to do it on the Alaska Airines website. There seems to be no field for specifying the adult PNR when booking the child ticket, but I do get bombarded with all sorts of stuff about unaccompanied minors which isn’t relevant because the child is not unaccompanied!

ashill Have things changed since you posted this in 2022?

Wish AA had it working that way. If you can buy the ticket as a codeshare through AS, maybe try that (although I think this may only work on AS metal; I know it didn't work for an AS award ticket with an overseas partner airline). I do this routinely for companion fares and/or adults flying paid while kids are on awards, for example.
