Let me know if the below seems right:
1) Main - full refund to trip credit. So if you pay $180 with trip credit and $5 with credit card, the entire $185 goes a new trip credit
2) Main Plus - full refund to original payment method. So if you pay $180 with trip credit and $5 with credit card, the $180 goes to a new trip credit and $5 goes back to the credit card
Thanks!
Just dont book the BE. However, what worked in May did not work in July/Aug - AA has plugged this loophole. You will get a FLIGHT CREDIT back.
I did try this method but I received a FLIGHT CREDIT back. I called AA to inquire WHY it wasn't a trip credit back. The agent was as surprised as me. She called the help desk then returned to tell me because the flight was booked with a TRIP CREDIT. When canceled, the reissuance is a FLIGHT CREDIT. The cancellation was due to a medical reason so I wrote to AA customer service using the website form asking if AA could reissue a TRIP CREDIT instead. They obliged due to the circumstances. Just so you know, you MIGHT RECEIVE A FLIGHT CREDIT BACK.
Here is the DP I reported back in Jul, in the STICKY THREAD on this topic.
