Whether or not you enjoy your stay here will depend a lot on the type of room you get, how much you are paying, the view from your window, and how you deal with the space limited drawbacks. On a more general note, apart from the beautiful 19th century building I'm not sure why the St Ermin's thinks it can charge so much each night. Your money can easily get a lot more in London for the same price. I think this hotel is best for point redemptions, and those interested in staying in, and enjoying, 19th century historical architecture.
I've stayed here a number of times and, yes, had tiny bathrooms many times in spite of being upgraded, although not the small shower you describe, thankfully. It is a beautiful place. The last few times I've checked the redemption rates were actually higher there, unfortunately, which forced us to stay at another property, so it pays to keep checking, for sure.
