Historically, signing up with an airline partner locks you into only redeeming for that airline but lets you redeem all available hotel programs.
My memory has no record of how or when I joined e-rewards, but I can currently redeem for AS, AA, BA, UA, SW, Iberia, Frontier, Jet Blue, and others. But the survey pickings have been very unrewarding recently.
