On a side note, buying JAL J through HA's website as a codeshare can save some money when compared to purchasing directly through JAL website. Downfall is no preselection of seats as it's a codeshare.
We fly business class and have had really excellent IRROPS support by JAL staff in Sapporo and Haneda. Love JAL and ANA cabin service, but they do keep those cabins hot!
Have flown JAL as HA codeshare on several occasions, and have been able to get advance seat assignments each time. They can’t do it immediately, but call back in a day or two and HA can assign the seats.
BTW, the AMEX IAP program has given me some truly awesome fares on JAL to Asia from HNL.
