So I guess the lesson from this thread and a
similar thread a few weeks ago is:
Check the paperwork thoroughly
before driving off the lot. That means stopping at the gate with other people waiting behind you and either studying the details of the paperwork they give you, or wait for the email and compare that to what was booked. And then for good measure wait some ten minutes in case an updated contract with other rates/fees arrives (see that thread). That will
really slow down rental processing at the gate.
None of the rental companies are great, but Hertz continues to shock and awe me with their scams reported in this thread. All my bookings this year have gone to their competitors. I still have a few thousand points left, and some of them are going to be expired at the end of the year. Not sure that I care enough to try to find a use for them.
