I’ve noticed that it seems 8K is always blocked (with a limited data set of flights I’ve looked at) on DXB flights and never opens up (the upgrade list only shows a capacity of 29).
Is this a seat that they are saving for crew rest? I know there is a crew rest area upstairs at the back of the 789, does it not have adequate bunks for the crew size/rest requirements on these long haul routes?

think it's specific to ULH flights where there are 4 crew in the flight deck. The 787s have a limitation where there is only 1 seat and 2 beds in the crew bunks compared to the 777s where there is 2 seats and 2 beds, and as a result there is a crew rest seat required to augment.
