Pretty sure apps/website will be a flat no for non-UA ticket stock.
The note case, some more recent but a number of year, was a change by an agent. Hopefully their computers do not allow an override.
The issue is SDC does not make notify other carriers of the change. (in simplified terms) When the partner does not receive confirmation of the passenger taking the original flight, the down line segments get cancelled
