I'm trying to find a US Hyatt property for a 2-3 week stay in August, ideally high enough up in the mountains / far enough north to escape potential summer heat.
Hiking trails should start very close to the hotel with some elevation nearby. I prefer to start running early in the morning right from the hotel, some days even while it's still dark so the area should be safe.
The Hyatt Centric in Park City, Grand Hyatt in Vail, or the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek are all places we have stayed at in the summer. They will have the perfect temperature in August your looking for near hiking and running trails. My wife is a runner and loves running all those places. There is lots of good hiking at all three of those mountains (plus Deer Valley) as well.
I'd stay at one of those hotels, the Hyatt Centric Park City will give you a condo type setup if you book a 1 bedroom suite or better. You can scan the Homes and Hideaways site to find a condo based setup too. Homes and Hideaways opens up more mountain towns in Colorado to stay at if you are willing to pay the preimum and book through that site.
There are also some options in the Lake Tahoe area but I'm not as familiar with those properties in the summer. We are trying out the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe this August.
