Adding pax to existing PNR / combining PNRs

Related to this 7-year old thread (Combining bookings) although that post seemed to deal with award seats.
Some friends have booked a four-sector, multi-city 'open jaw' trip (BHX-DXB-SGN - HAN-DXB-BHX). My OH now wants to join them, ideally on the same PNR.

Do EK allow adding a pax to an existing PNR?
If not, is it possible combine two PNRs after booking the second?

The intention here is primarily to ensure that they sit together for each sector, but also to minimise the chances of them being split up in the event of IROPs.
We haven't yet asked the call centre as - if the answer to either of the above is yet - I'd like to know the answer to the question before asking them it...
