It was an engine surge on engine 2. Self recovering. Not sure atm if it generated an EICAS caution and subsequent ECL. But a single self recovering surge is of concern for the subsequent sector but not an immediate concern. At risk of going semi Clarkson at this point “due to the unique way in which the Rolls Royce contract is funded”, there would have been direct input from the RR team in Derby. All of this would have led to a decision that ultimately rests with the commander. The aircraft has been recovered to LHR with no further issues other than significant inconvenience to the pax of BA195/194 today. That is the sum of it.
