I did not enjoy my stay at the Hyatt Centric and would not return - even without all of the CC nonsense I am dealing with, I did not like the property. Here are my impressions:
Cons:
Credit card overcharge nonsense with presumably non-consensual DCC - my bank is reporting a higher USD than it should be when they processed my transaction on their computer without taking my physical card (did not ask for this) - I received a bunch of nonsense about how the hotel can pick their own exchange rate when I confronted them - CHARGE ME IN AED - I did not authorize any DCC and was not given a currency choice - ugh, I’m still mad. Though, I still don’t know if DCC specifically was the issue, but something is awry.
While I was upgraded to an Executive Suite with a great view of the Burj Khalifa, the room smelled very smokey - had to move to a Deluxe room with a much worse view
The WiFi performance was terrible - I had to rely on my phone hotspot in my room
The AC was terrible - it never got below 22 even when set on 15
The main table was annoyingly unbalanced and wobbly
Noise isolation internally was bad - heard someone hacking up a lung - luckily, outdoor music was minimal on the night I was there
The staff wasn’t very warm or good at resolving issues
No welcome gift at all - not even fruit
Neutral:
Shower pressure was super “misty” from the pinholes - guess it’s “relaxing” but not my favorite
Pros:
Bed was fine - decently plush mattress, okay thickness covers (room was too hot anyway), plush pillows
Breakfast was good - all a la carte, the French toast was really good
I would not come back and am very concerned about going to the Andaz Dubai next week.
