Unable to pay for award reservation online

I booked a partner award today on CX/JL for December but when I tried to pay for it (taxes) using my saved credit card, I kept getting an error message like "Something went wrong......" or "Our system is having trouble......."
Eventually called Web Services and they said they were aware of the problem and only way to pay for it is to put it on hold and then call them to manually process a payment. (He could not say how long the problem has been ongoing or when it would be fixed!)

I did the manual payment and it ticketed instantly and I could see the booking on both CX and JL websites. (However CX would not let me assign seats, but on JL website I could assign seats for both JL and CX flights.)
