Related to the 10 days of "our system is having trouble' messages: I bit the bullet and called tech support. 30 minutes on the phone yielded a solution.

1) Go to your account page
2) Select Reservation Preferences
3) Delete all potential companions
4) Save
5) Log out then log back in
6) Should be able to now book and save a reservation

I'm told I can add potential companions back and the system should still work...but haven't tried that yet. I can now make new reservations.
Perhaps this will help someone along the way.
