apparently this is not the case for low-level award tix

in a couple weeks we'll be flying MAN-DUB on a ticket issued by AS; EI (via WhatsApp) informs me that there are charges for advance seat selection as well as any checked bags, and paying for the bags at the airport will be more expensive
