Nice 4 night stay here recently. My first time in London, so I can't compare it to anything else. But for the price (compared to most other Marriott properties in the city) it provided very solid value and I would definitely stay here again.
Pros:
- Shoreditch neighborhood is great. It's a short walk to most of the restaurants. Close by metro stop and plenty of busses.
- Gorgeous building from the exterior and well appointed throughout.
- Upgraded to a Sky High Double (which is one queen bed) as a Platinum. It's basically the standard room on one of the top floors. The hotel was fully booked.
- Delivered a nice welcome gift of a beer and some snacks
- Offered late checkout proactively but not needed
- Great toiletries
- The gym was well stocked and well sized for a hotel. We didn't use the pool or spa.
- Elite breakfast is the full buffet (though, see below)
- Very nice staff all around. All of our interactions with them were positive.
Cons:
- Blackout curtains were either fully open or closed. The electric system would not allow partial opening.
- Contrary to EE, I found the bed way too soft. It was one of the few downsides of my stay.
- No subdued lighting in the bathroom for the inevitable late night pee run.
- Agree with EE that the breakfast food quality was so-so, although the selection and quality beats almost anything you'd find in the US. Best bet was to order direct from the kitchen off a short list of optional (free) extras, including avocado toast, omelettes, pancakes, etc.
Overall a very good stay in a much quieter and less expensive part of town.
