During my first year in New Orleans, when I was splitting my time between my previous home in DE and flying back and forth, I rented cars in NOLA. I always rented off-airport. The cost of the Uber/Lyft from the airport to whatever Enterprise or Hertz office that AutoSlash found for me—even, on occasion, in Chalmette!—was always well more than offset than the aggregated excess per-day charges that came with renting a car at the airport. Obviously, YMMV depending on how long you need the car for, but if it’s any more than 5-6 days, it’s definitely worth checking on.
