My experience is once you try the $500 the card gets fraud locked and you have to call for a replacement. Use this script "I've tried to use the card at multiple different merchants and it's always denied". That works for me. They FedEx a new card and it arrives in about 5 to 7 days.
I think you may be right with my case , bought a safe spend vgc with 4097 58 x2 tried both wouldn't load or mo at full 500 . then after another 24 hours , none of the small amount at the mall would go thru. I requested a refund with a check in the end from a supervisor.
My question to you is the replacement card going to work again with full 500 ? or do you need do weird numbers like 489 to load or mo ? and what type gc do you purchase with path/incomm , somwhere i read the one with gift present logo works better than safe spend ....
